Shakudo menuki attributed to Ko-Kinko tradition with NBTHK Hozon Tosogu. At first glance this attribution by NBTHK seemed a bit strange to me. However after careful study I can't disagree. Carving style and design looks a bit like a mix of early edo Goto and Nara School. They also remind me of sculptures with the difference that on this menuki both Idaten and Demon are moving, while on sculptures they would be still.
Decorated with Idaten running after the demon that stole a sacred object from the temple. Idaten is a god know for his speed, protector of Buddhism and Buddhist temples.
Made of shakudo with gold Iroe.
I think this set was made in the late 17th century. It is a stunning work of art for an item made in that period.
