Brass tsuba signed "Tsuneshige" with NBTHK Hozon Tosogu. He was a student of Nara Shigetsugu, active around 1775-1800. He created his own distinctive style that was often copied by other makers.
Tsuba shows Minamoto No Yoshiie spotting geese that just took flight. Based on that he rightfully guessed that enemy soldiers and hiding under tall grass. Evading this trap saved lives of many of his soldiers. This is one of the stories that showcase how skilful commander he was.
Tsuba made of beautiful dark colour brass. Decorated with gold and shakudo inlay.
