Iron Mito School tsuba decorated with Chinnan Sennin. Legend says that "Once passing through a village in Sogo, he found the people praying for rain, whereupon he thrust his stick into a pool of dried mud in which he detected the presence of dragon, and compelled the latter to open the cataracts of heaven upon the parched land" form Legend in Japanese Art by Henri L. Joly.

Usually Chinnan Sennin is shown together with a dragon. On this tsuba artist decided to leave it out of the picture. By showing Sennin with a bowl and rain, made sure that we know who that is.

Made of iron with gold, copper and yamagane inlay. There is also gold iroe.

Made in late Edo period.

Size: 64 mm x 59 mm x 4,5 mm
