Shibuichi Tsuba Signed "Arai Hidetoshi" with NBTHK Hozon Tosogu
Shibuichi tsuba signed "Arai Hidetoshi" with NBTHK Hozon Tosogu. It is in tatemaru-gata so in vertically elongated round shape. Made of shibuichi, alloy of copper and silver. Surface has been polished (migaki ji). Rim is kaku-mimi ko-niku, so round but rather flat surface.
Carvings are made with sukidashi bori technique. This means that large parts of the material was removed with chisels or hammered away. And what remained was shaped with finer chisels.
There is silver inlay, animal and waterfall. Possibly shakudo, eye and dots in the center of leafs and gold iroe (gilding) on grass and leafs.
This is a superb quality tsuba. When kept in hand it almost seems like it is melting. All carvings and gilding are done perfectly. Please notice how natural the fur is. The motif might not be what motsst people are looking for but the quality or workmanship is outstanding.
