Iron Soten School tsuba decorated with Battle of Uji. Battle of Uji river took place on June 20th 1180, marking the beginning of the Genpei War. Before the battle Taira forces removed planks from the bridge and placed heavy rocks in the water, both of those are well depicted on the tsuba. On the right and in the water are Minamoto forces trying to cross the river. 

Made of iron with gold, silver and copper inlaid. It is a really good quality work for a Soten tsuba. Especially when appreciated in hand.

Made in late edo period.
