Iron Sukashi Tsuba on Wooden Stand - Phoenix - Kyo-Shoami
Iron Kyo-Shoami sukashi tsuba decorated with phoenix. Gold inlay made with nunome-zogan. Eye most probably inlaid with copper. This tsuba has copper sekigane in nakago ana. Based on that we can assume that it was fitted on a sword at certain point in time. There are signs that there was a rim around the tsuba and it was removed. Patina on those places is different than on the rest of tsuba.
Connection to wooden stand is done very well. To the point that sometimes it is difficult to tell where tsuba ends and stand begins.
This is a great item for those who wish to exhibit their antique tsuba and not just keep it inside wooden box.
Condition: good, there is single scratch on a wooden stand.
For comparision similar phoenix tsuba in the collection on Museum of Decorative Arts, Copenhagen.
