Shakudo Menuki with Buddhist Motifs - Onigawara and Scroll
Shakudo menuki with buddhist motifs.
Left menuki is decorated with onigawara, a roof ornament depicting a head of the demon. They are most often seen on Buddhist temples. Very often with triple tomoe that is on the left side of this menuki. On the rigt side two tiles. Base metal of this menuki is shakudo. Eyes of the demon made with inlaid gold. Part with tripel tomoe is gilded with exeption of black doots sorounding the tomoe. Tiles on the right side made of silver.
Right menuki is depicting a scroll. Inside of the scroll is covered with silver inlay, outside is gilded and gently carved with maple leafs. Scroll weights are from the base shakudo alloy.
