Tsuba attributed to Mito School with NBTHK Hozon Tosogu. According to NBTHK decorated with dancing cranes and pine sprouts. This is a common theme in Japanese art and here with have a rather unique take on it. It is very interesting to look at this tsuba and compare it to famous paintings with the same theme. Deep and strong hammer finish of the surface combined with dark lacquer looks a bit like background of old ink paintings. This is a very good piece for a long study.
Made of shinchu with hammered surface. Inlay and iroe.
