Soten School tsuba decorated with demon holding a gong mallet and dancing on the clouds. This is my personal interpretation of the picture. I was not able to find demon name or story behind it. Fellow collector thinks it might be a humorous depiction of a religious theme. I look at it more like it would be a ukiyo-e print then a tsuba. So a wonderful depiction of demon stirring up winds in the sky and having fun with all the damage and turmoil it will cause.

Made of iron and decorated with shibuichi, silver and copper inlay. Gold applied with nunome zogan technique.

Made in late Edo Period.

Size: 81 mm x 80 mm x 5 mm

With custom made kiri box.
